Excellence runs deep in the history of Taylor’s Black Community. Residents came together to help each other and be of service to their community, local businesses thrived, and the youth were the product of a loving village. As we move forward in time, we believe it is important to remember the values of that time. They kept our communities strong, when our country’s policies would see us bound by oppression and segregation.
The Dickey Museum, in partnership with the Blackshear O.L. Price Ex-Students’ Association, works to keep the spirit of Excellence in Business, Community, and Education alive and well in Central Texas.
This is an inclusive community of people in business. Small or Large. Incorporated or not. Experienced or just starting out.
We are creating a space of growth and mutual aid. We cherish our small business owners and the pandemic created a whole new group of soloprenuers, creatives, and craftspeople in business that, if they were lucky, built an online community to support their businesses. Now, that we are starting to do more live and local connecting, we want to keep entrepreneurs and small business owners inspired, motivated, and working towards their goals with local support.
The intention of Connecting Excellence in Business Cohort is to cultivate a space where Black Business Owners can get together and support each other, while receiving group-requested resources (educational, advisory, etc.) to ensure that the collective is served in a meaningful way. Additionally, we will work together to identify opportunities to connect with local consumers and businesses, hopefully resulting in an increase in local support for our business owners. The group is open to all that apply. The Entrepreneur of the Award will be reserved for Taylor Residents or THS Graduates.
