About Us

Turning Community Visions & Dreams into Reality

The Historic Dickey Museum & Multipurpose Center and surrounding areas is a place for all to share our past and unite our future for generations to come.

This space will be used to educate, promote wellness, good health, soundness & peace of mind through meditation while serving the community as a resource.

Dickey Museum Task Force

Dickey Museum Founding

The building, now known as the Dickey Museum and Multipurpose Center, was donated by St. Mary’s Catholic Church under the pastorialship of Father Lonnie Urban in 1997. In 2003, Prairie View A&M School of Architecture, under the supervision of Professor Barry Norwood, traveled to Taylor to begin Phase 1 of the restoration project. This visit resulted in a scale model of the building and a historical designation for the site by the State of Texas

Our Mission

To collect, preserve, exhibit, and present African American culture in art and history, educating through modern technology. We will serve as an educational resource, dedicated to sharing local history and culture that is largely overlooked. The Multipurpose Center will serve the city of Taylor through offering many programs and services that will be catered to the needs of various demographics.
